In a strategic collaboration, SEAM and AMOGY are reaching significant milestones in the retrofitting process of a 1957 tugboat with state-of-the-art ammonia-to-power technology.

The retrofit involves a comprehensive overhaul of the tugboat's original diesel generators and electric motors, integrating AMOGY's high-efficiency ammonia-to-power system. SEAM's pivotal role includes delivering the e-SEAMatic® BLUE package, incorporating the power system, integrated automation system, safety system, battery system, and electric motor for main propulsion.

The project is now well underway, with several milestones achieved:

  • Successful completion of Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for the e-SEA® Drive and AC switchboards.
  • Seamless delivery of electric motor in collaboration with RAMME Electric Machines GmbH
  • Efficient supply of ORCA® batteries from Corvus.

These components are now en route to Feeney Shipyard in Kingston, NY, for installation on the historic 66-year-old tugboat. The collaborative effort, involving ship designer C-Job, Yara Clean Ammonia, Corvus, Ramme, and AMOGY's dedicated project team, underscores collective innovation's power in shaping a sustainable maritime future.

SEAM is proud to play a central role in this endeavor, championing sustainable maritime solutions that set the course for a cleaner, greener future. The ammonia tugboat project stands as a testament to the power of collaborative innovation in reshaping the maritime industry.

Stay tuned for more updates as SEAM, AMOGY and the rest of the team continue propelling the ammonia tugboat project forward.
