The transition of short-sea shipping toward greener operations has reached another milestone with the delivery of the MV Hagland Polaris
As the fourth in a series of "Hybrid Eco Traders" built at Royal Bodewes Shipyard for Hagland Shipping, the Hagland Polaris represents a sophisticated blend of energy efficiency and future-ready technology. And it doesn't stop there; three more vessels are underway.
Advanced Battery-Hybrid Integration
At the core of the vessel’s performance is a comprehensive battery-hybrid system delivered by SEAM. The 5,000 DWT self-discharging bulk carrier features a suite of integrated solutions, including DC switchboards, electric motors, and a high-capacity Corvus battery package.
To ensure the vessel remains at the forefront of the green transition, the engine solution is designed for future conversion to methanol operation, and our delivery of shore power connections and an AC cabinet for the electric excavator enables zero-emission capabilities during port stays and cargo handling.
Next-Generation Automation:
e-SEAMatic® v4
The Hagland Polaris will also benefit from our latest generation e-SEAMatic® automation platform. Developed in-house by SEAM, this platform is the result of over 15 years of continuous evolution and more than 400 successful applications.
The new system provides an intuitive, human-centered interface that allows the crew to manage complex energy flows with ease. Beyond local control, the platform ensures a seamless and secure data connection between onboard systems and shore-based operations, providing the transparency required for modern fleet management.
A Proven Partnership
The successful sea trials and commissioning of the electric hybrid system earlier this April marked the final steps before the vessel commenced its maiden voyage. This delivery continues the strong collaboration between Hagland, Royal Bodewes, and SEAM.
With this fourth vessel now entering service, Hagland Shipping is well-positioned with a fleet that prioritizes both environmental sustainability and operational excellence.
